PELARGONIUM zonale Species Pelargonium. Vivid pink single flowers, upper two petals look almost joined. The bottom three flare out. Large round 'zonale' leaves with a faint brown marking. Structure similar to all zonal forms available today, fleshy and thick stemmed. In the wild it is found in from the Eastern to Western Cape Province.
Ciconium Group. Documented in Amsterdam since 1700. Seed was sent by the governor of the Cape of Good Hope, Wilhelm Adrian van der Stel.
Used with other species including P. inquinans and P. fulgidum to begin the breeding of the thousands of zonal hybrids or 'bedding Geraniums' we have available today.
A hugely significant plant.
