The Plantsman’s Nursery

The Plant list

Common Name

Large, narrow, trumpet shaped, purple black flowers. Free flowering and most elegant. June-Oct. Mid green leaves. Ht. 120cm. Sp. 60cm. Sun and good drainage. Not too dry soil.

Penstemons should be planted in well-drained, fertile soil in full sun. They are not plants for heavy clay or dry sand, but need good, moisture retentive, well-drained soil
Penstemons should not be pruned hard in autumn as this frequently results in die back and loss of plants. Even if the old stems are sprouting, they should pruned back in April to base, as they will flower better on the new season’s growth. Mulching in winter round the base of the Penstemon will protect against severe frosts
