NANDINA domestica Obsessed

Wonderful compact evergreen shrub. Young top growth is bright red. Small white flowers in summer. Eventual Ht 100cm Sp 100cm. Sun or part shade. Moist well draind soil. Hardy. Can be contained in a pot.

Nandina are native to Eastern Asia and are commonly called ‘Sacred or Heavenly Bamboo’ although they are in fact no relation to the Bamboo.
They are a genus of shrubs with just one species – domestica – meaning as you would expect – domesticated or ‘of the household’. There are 65 recorded cultivars of Nandina, we stock our two personal favourites – Obsessed (or Obsession) and Lemon and Lime. Although in appearance they can seem tender they very hardy (RHS H5 = -10 to -15). A wonderful plant for winter interest either in the garden or in a pot. They look beautiful planted with white Hellebores and underplanted with Snowdrops and Cyclamen. Containerised plants should be repotted once a year.
