Bulbous Iris

Irises are either bulbous Iris or rhizomatous Iris. This means the plant is either grown from a bulb or a rhizome. Bulb Irises include Iris reticulata, Dutch Iris and Juno Iris. Dutch Iris are often the forms you will see being sold in florists as cut flowers. These can grow easily in our gardens as well, requiring full sun and a moist yet well drained soil. They flower from April to June. Iris reticulata are winter flowering Iris and are incredibly hardy, they are best planted in bold groups and flower from February to March. Juno Iris can be tender in the UK and some species are quite rare. We grow Iris bucharica, a tougher form suitable for sheltered gardens.
