Species Hemerocallis are forms collected in the wild, predominantly native to Asia, China, Korea and Japan, to date there are only 16 species of Hemerocallis, which is low in comparison to the thousands of cultivars available through hybridisation. The species forms are elegant, often fragrant and in shades of yellow to orange. Some are rhizomatous and can cover large areas very quickly, one of these is H. fulva, a well-known species, albeit slightly invasive. Most other species and cultivars are well behaved and not so thuggish. Species include, H. lilioasphodelus, an early flowering fragrant yellow form. H. multiflora meaning many flowers and H. citrina with lemon scented blooms.
