As well as Bearded Iris and Iris sibiricas Woottens grow a range of other Iris species –
ensatas, foetidissima, spurias and unguicularis. Iris ensata and Iris spuria are useful for prolonging the Iris season into July.
We only grow a small selection of Iris ensatas as most of the modern varieties are double and impossibly florid.
Iris spurias are all wonderful – amazing colours - tall wayward branching stems – exquisitely shaped flowers.
Iris foetidissima is invaluable for dry shade. About Iris unguicularis.
E A Bowles said it all "Suppose a wicked uncle who wished to check your gardening zeal left you pots of money on condition you chose only one species of plant:
what plant would you choose?
I would settle on Iris unguicularis".
